Advanced sealing for harsh rotating applications

Cassette seals (also called cartridge seals or labyrinth seals) are engineered solutions for demanding rotating shaft applications where a standard single-lip oil seal is inadequate. They combine multiple sealing lips and an integrated metal housing in a pre-assembled unit that simplifies installation compared to fitting multiple individual seals separately.

The multi-lip design provides 4 to 6+ sealing and exclusion contact points, compared to 1–2 for a standard oil seal. This architecture handles heavy abrasive contamination — dust, mud, water, and rock particles — that would destroy a conventional lip seal within a fraction of its designed service life.

Cassette seals are standard equipment on tractor front axles, combine harvesters, wheel hub assemblies, off-highway vehicle drive axles, and any rotating joint that operates in consistent exposure to abrasive contamination.

Installation: Cassette seals require proper tooling and technique — consult us for the correct installation method for your specific unit. A correctly installed cassette provides a significant advantage over individually fitted multi-lip seals in terms of consistency and contamination resistance.

The effectiveness of a cassette seal comes from stacking multiple exclusion and retention functions in a single assembly. Each lip serves a distinct purpose.

Cassette seal dimensional reference

Cassette seals are specified by shaft diameter (d), outer housing bore diameter (D), and seal width (B). When ordering a replacement, measure all three dimensions from the original part or the housing — these dimensions do not always follow standard shaft seal series.

OEM cross-reference: Many cassette seal part numbers are OEM-specific. If you have an OEM part number from John Deere, CNH, Volvo, Komatsu, or another manufacturer, contact us — we cross-reference and supply equivalent or superior replacement cassettes.

Lip and housing materials

NBR (Nitrile) Lips

–40°C to +100°C
Standard specification for most agricultural and construction applications. Mineral oil and grease resistant. Most available cassette configuration.

FKM (Viton®) Lips

–20°C to +180°C
High-temperature bearing housings, synthetic lubricants, or chemical exposure. Significantly extended service life in elevated-temperature applications.

PTFE Retention Lip

–60°C to +220°C
Low-friction primary retention lip in premium cassette designs. Reduces heat generation at high shaft speeds. Often combined with NBR exclusion lips.

Steel / Stainless Case

N/A
Standard pressed steel housing for most applications. Stainless steel available for corrosive environments (marine, chemical, food processing).
