Materials
As many possibilities as there are considerations to take into account – materials are the basis of a high-performance seal
Useful information
- Resistance at temperature : FFKM, FKM and Silicone are excellent for high temperatures; EPDM and Silicone for low temperatures. Be careful of maximum vs. continuous temperatures as well as the speed of the temperature cycle.
- Pressure resistance : Urethane is known for its resistance to extrusion and high pressures. Note that fluorinated materials (FKM, FFKM) also perform better than others under high pressure thanks to low setback.
- Tensile strength : Urethane is distinguished by its mechanical robustness; elastomers vary from 5 to 25 MPa.
- Applications General: Oil/fuel oriented (NBR, FKM); weather/outdoor (EPDM, Neoprene); high temperature/medical (Silicone); extreme conditions (FFKM); wear resistance (Urethane).
- And many variations : Always consult specific technical data sheets for exact grades, as additives can improve properties (e.g. filled PTFE for improved wear resistance).
This is intended as a brief overview and we remain at your disposal to discuss equipment suitable for your application. Possibilities are virtualy endless.
