The wiper range
- General-purpose snap-in (W1A, W1B) — NBR 90 Sh or PU 92 Sh, 1 m/s, standard groove. Choose the compound by ambient temperature and contamination, not pressure.
- Combined double lip (W1C) — second lip refines the residual oil film as well as excluding dirt. Pair with a compatible rod seal or provide a drainage channel so hydrodynamic pressure cannot build between wiper and rod seal.
- Heavy-duty single-acting PU (W3Q, W3R) — 94–95 Sh PU, W3Q to −40/+120 °C, secondary OD lip against dirt and water spray. Mining, concrete pumps, telescopic and mobile cylinders.
- Metal-cased (W1Y, W2Z, W2A, W2E) — PU or NBR lip on a steel case, interference-fitted; assembly tooling required so the case and groove are not damaged. Higher radial load, no machined groove needed.
- Internal-cage (W3U) — steel cage flush with the OD to keep moisture out of the groove; groove-design reference (lead-in chamfer by bore) on the row.
- Clip-in scraper “Wyclip” (W3W) — presses in and holds on its own outer lip, no retaining plates or bolts, minimal machining. For the most abrasive matter — jack rods on earth-moving plant, construction equipment, forklifts.
- PTFE/bronze (W3T) — O-ring energised, 5 m/s, for high sliding speed; change the O-ring for non-mineral-oil media.
- External wiper (W3X) — for single-acting cylinders with the rod side open to atmosphere, e.g. jacks.
- Pneumatic combined seal/wiper (W1L, W1H, W3J, W1P) — one part doing rod-seal and wiper duty where gland space is tight; 16 bar.
Rod surface
The wiping lip runs on the same finish as the rod seal — hard-chrome plated, about Ra 0.1–0.3 µm on elastomer wipers; the metal-cased W2E row specifies Ra 0.8–1.6 µm.
