Choosing between G1A and G1B

Both take the radial (side) load off the metal so the bore and rod never touch and the seals wear evenly. The difference is load capacity: G1A (POM-GF) at 40 N/mm² covers normal hydraulic side loads; G1B (polyester/PTFE laminate) at 100 N/mm² is the step-up for heavy or shock side loading. Ring grooves follow ISO 10766.

Fitting

  • 45° scarf cut — lets the ring open enough to snap into a closed groove; no cylinder disassembly.
  • Expansion gap — G1A ships with a defined K-gap. Measure the butt gap with the ring seated in the groove; it must never close fully at working temperature with the fluid absorbed, or the ring buckles.
  • Rod vs piston — same material and thickness logic, mirrored: a rod guide bears on its inner diameter, a piston guide on its outer diameter. Order to the groove.

Material notes

POM (Delrin-type): good mineral-oil compatibility, low friction, dimensionally stable; avoid strong acids and prolonged UV. Polyester-reinforced PTFE: mineral-oil compatible, used specifically where plain POM does not have the load capacity.
